Reason why you need IV therapy

IV therapy stands for Intravenous (IV) therapy, in which fluids, blood or medication is delivered into the patient's body through veins.

Reasons why need to take IV therapy:

  1. Dehydration

Human body consists of 60% water, but we lose water in our day to day life through sweating, urinating, or physically exerting ourselves. While dehydrated the human body compensates for losing fluid by increasing heart rate and blood pressure. Getting IV therapy for dehydration is an efficient way to replace liquid in the body. Hospital department gives IV therapy to the patient when they are in an advanced stage of dehydration. IV therapy delivers fluid directly in the vein immediately in the patient's body.

  1. Surgery

IV therapy is an important component to surgical procedure, healthcare providers use IV therapy to administer anesthesia, pain medications, antibiotics, fluids, and other vital liquid. IV fluids help to maintain a patient’s hydration, electrolyte and blood sugar levels during surgical procedures.

  1. Medication Administration

In many cases patients take medication through the mouth but in some cases fluid can only be supplied in the body through veins. In many cases like chemotherapy regimens, blood/blood product transfusions, antibiotic/antifungal therapy requiring more potent agents than can be given orally, etc. IV therapy will be the best solution.

  1. Emergency situation

Some emergency situations in which a patient may receive emergency medication, blood or fluids through intravenous therapy; these situations are Heart Attack, Stroke, Trauma, Excessive bleeding or loss of fluids, and Poisoning.
